Playground Shade project at Shahid Hari Prasad Secondary School

University of Canberra students delivering nutrition education to Women's Community Group in Lwang, Kaski
Children's playground at Shahid Hari Prasad School, Lwang

Project Synopsis

Situated in the village of Lwang Ghalel, this school is home to 70 local children from around the village. The school was partly damaged by the 2015 earthquakes and also damaged by recurrent flooding overtime. For over two years, REACH for Nepal has organised hands on volunteering community projects with travelling Australians contributing to the rebuild and other projects.

In Oct 2018, Sylvia Sanfransesco was part of the Community Project trip from Australia led by Lou Nulley, RFN Director. When Sylvia was working at the school, she noticed that the swing and slide which were the only things the children had to play on, was exposed to the hot sun. Whilst the school was keen to provide a shaded area for the children, it could not afford it. The need for the shaded area was not of highest priority for the RFN foundation to fund on its own, so Sylvia decided to make a generous contribution which enabled the project to proceed.
